My dogs and I had an amazing stay and I would definitely book here again. The hotel is set in the downtown part of Erie, a few minutes drive away from the zoological park "Erie Zoo". There was a vending machine and ice machine on the floor that I was on. Oh, and even the stairwell was nicely lit, wide & spacious and carpeted. I had the pleasure of being checked in and out by Amy Lynn who was very friendly and professional. I had to grab and go as I didn't have much time, but the options available made it easy to do so. Breakfast was served early (6am I think) and had a wonderful variety. I used their 24hr business area and printed some local trail maps, so helpful as my phone was acting up. Full sized microwave, dishwasher, fridge with freezer, plates, glasses, mugs, utensils, even paper towels plus more! Also love the easy scan entry, no fumbling around with sticking the key cards into door slots! The back has a nicely lit patio with BBQs and I think a fire pit (I didn't have enough time to take advantage of that). The TV is a nice clear Panasonic and huge and there's more than enough lamps and lighting. There's plenty of towels, and toiletries. I can't say enough good things about this hotel, the beds are comfortable, there's so much counter and table space with a roll out table and the office chair is so comfortable - I wish I had that chair in my office, the bathroom is clean and I love how the shower is a roomy stand up shower and the drainage is great. This is my second time staying here and my first time staying here with my dogs (another plus, they are dog friendly with a dog area and poop bags). It's modern, clean, spacious and has everything you need. This is the best hotel I have stayed in in Erie. Hilton will also be notified of all this. There was something spilled in the main Guest Lobby area that ran from the front desk all the way to the pool area and was not cleaned up-this place was horrible! Breakfast did not have enough food for registered hotel guests-no coffee, no bread, no seating and housekeeping staff were smoking cigarettes right outside the front door-I mean I could not believe all of this was happening under one roof! Never once was any kind of management on site. It was scary! Asked to please move, yet the next room was just the same-we were so disappointed as this is a new hotel and we are Hilton Honors members. The room had a huge fruit punch stain on the carpet along with other stains and the pillows on beds looked liked someone had just slept there. ![]() Tried to check in to this hotel under our reservation at 4:15PM-the front desk said we could not check in yet as they did not have enough towels-Huh? We waited until 5PM to get into the room. Go to the Sheraton Erie Waterfront Hotel instead of this place.

The paintings in the second room, ESPINA AZUL (Blue Thorn) and VERDE PUSSAX (Green Pussax), both 2021,were predominantly kelly and mint green, sky and deep blue, with whirlpools of white. Huanca’s process is as follows: She paints on bodies, closely photographs them, blows the photos up on canvas, and then adds thick layers of oil paint mushed with sand. Coupled with the huge mirrored walls everywhere, they also emphasized the ubiquity of these surfaces: how speculative architecture today loves its shiny chrome, glass, and marble how high-end refrigerators, doorbells, and alarm clocks are also screens now. Huanca’s big, luxuriant paintings alluded to the constant human–screen interactions that structure our lives. Luckily, the show offered immaterial enticements, its scent (minty, woodsy palo santo) and sounds (the soothing crackling of embers) helping the viewer transition into a space that was completely different: bright white, lofty, reflective. Independents have survived “only by reaching out more effectively to their core readers in their geographic community,” Holter says. It’s also true that Daunt’s key strategic move of giving store managers the latitude to make inventory decisions themselves rather than binding them to central ordering out of New York parallels the approach of independent bookstores nationwide. (That process was slower in California than elsewhere in the country, Daunt says, because seismic codes requiring bookshelves and display cases to be bolted to the floor made them harder to remove and reposition.) ![]() Indeed, Daunt acknowledged in a 2021 interview with Publishers Weekly that industry trends had been working in the company’s favor: Book sales were holding firm, rents were down and pandemic closures gave Barnes & Noble the opportunity to redesign and refurbish its stores while customers were stuck at home. But if the publishing industry were doing poorly, Barnes & Noble would not be having a comeback.” “Everyone in the industry agrees that James Daunt is doing the right thing. “Normally, the business is happy when sales are flat,” says Jane Friedman, a veteran consultant and commentator on publishing and writing. The apparent turnaround at Barnes & Noble isn’t entirely the product of Daunt’s strategy. “Our view of Barnes & Noble as a threat is different from what it was,” says Darryl Holter, co-owner of Chevalier’s Books in the Larchmont Village neighborhood of Los Angeles, “because I see them in some sense as a counterweight to Amazon - a counterweight that we can’t be because we don’t have that sort of volume.” One result of the change in management is that the book industry no longer fears that Barnes & Noble will follow Borders, which went out of business in 2011, into the void - an event that would have removed miles of retail bookshelves from the market and put a serious dent in book sales.Įven some independent booksellers - a community that once saw Barnes & Noble as an evil empire - are almost relieved at its likely survival, largely because there is a greater villain in the field: Amazon. Many of the new locations, however, will be smaller than the megastores that were typical of the Barnes & Noble footprint of yore. The program on that computer should be managing all the WOL on your network. It's likely needing the port forwarding for the computer running teamviewer. I've not used their WOL app, it might not use a pinhole. The app might be easier to use once working, but this will work. Get one working on the computer you are controlling and it will work. You should be able to log into a computer remotely and trigger a WOL program on the LAN. In case Wake on Lan to be done using Teamviewer remotely, not within the network, it requires port forwarding in its configuration and the static IP address. You won't be able to wake that computer if it's where all your WOL packets originate. The computer on your LAN with teamviewer needs to be available in order to send WOL packets over your network. Your "server" already opens a connection to teamviewer's corporate server which lets your clients in outside your NAT. Teamviewer's company brokers the connection to your LAN so you aren't forwarding ports. This is tested and works for me, using TeamViewer 13 ![]() ![]() Another issue is light scatter seen as a distracting halo or glow around bright objects. This results when different wavelengths (colors) of light pass through the eyepieces focal plane at different points and appear as a cloud of false color around bright objects. One such issue of all that glass is lateral color aberration. Extra lenses can also mean compromises in the overall design that can often lead to other issues. That also means there are more air-to-glass surfaces that can scatter light - reducing contrast and sometimes causing multiple reflections (ghosting) when viewing very bright objects such as the Moon and planets. More lenses mean more cost and more glass, which attenuates the amount of light you see. Premium (and costly!) eyepieces that have similar wide fields of view need many exotic glass elements to achieve that wide field of view - as many as 9 lenses or more. ![]() The eyepieces are parfocal, minimizing the amount of refocusing needed when switching from eyepiece to eyepiece within the series.Īgena Dual ED Eyepieces vs. A great value, these eyepieces are exceptional at nearly eliminating lateral color aberration and light scatter often associated with more expensive eyepieces that are better suited for deep space objects. With a true flat field and two high quality ED glass elements of different glass types, the new Agena StarGuider Dual ED eyepieces are characterized by a significantly high contrast image. But it’s challenging to find metaphors that are both faithful to the original ideas and readily accessible and even more challenging to do it in a way that does justice to their beauty. That’s why those of us who try to bring those ideas to a broad audience must often work in metaphors and analogies. They can seem abstract and forbidding if they are introduced abruptly, in the strange contexts that are their natural habitat. Many of the central ideas of modern physics are unfamiliar to most people. It is remarkable how perspective anticipates the concepts that dominate our basic understanding of Nature’s laws. It might be defined, indeed, as an objective study of subjectivity. With perspective, our concern is how a scene actually looks to a particular person from a specific vantage point. The science of perspective demonstrates the superficiality of such claims. It is sometimes said that science and art are fundamentally different in their approach and their dominion, since science strives to be objective while art is inherently subjective. The tiles of the city square, the parallels defined by architecture, and the relative sizes of people and trees receding into the distance all afford occasions for scientifically accurate rendering.įigure 2: The joy of perspective: Perugino’s ‘Delivery of the Keys’ (1481-82) We can see this reflected in such masterpieces as Perugino’s Delivery of the Keys (1481-82) in Figure 2 below. For artists, it was no longer a matter of recovering what had been lost, but of discovering a fundamentally new creative power. It was also a great confidence-builder: here, at last, was a major discovery that clearly went beyond what had been achieved by the ancient Greeks and Romans. Obviously, it allowed more accurate rendering. The work of Brunelleschi and Alberti made an enormous impact on the artists of the time. It involves a fascinating new kind of geometry, projective geometry. Fifteen years later, Leon Battista Alberti published a classic explanation of the technique. An earlier scientific breakthrough, driven by the needs of art rather than astronomy, was equally profound: Filippo Brunelleschi’s invention of drawing in perspective, around 1420.įigure 1: Brunelleschi’s arrangement allows a viewer to compare a reflected drawing to the thing itself, by removing the mirrorīrunelleschi demonstrated his ability to render scenes accurately through the brilliantly convincing experiment shown in Figure 1 below. While that is a convenient and defensible choice, it is not the only good candidate. Historians of science usually date the origin of the Scientific Revolution as 1543, when Copernicus’ De Revolutionibus first put the Earth in motion. My PC usually sits under the left side of my desk, and I typically notice connection issues when a wireless mouse is on the far-right of my somewhat large mouse pad, which is roughly 2.5 feet away from my gaming PC. It operates on the 2.4 GHz band, broadcasts on two wireless channels across 40 frequencies to fight data packet loss during potential wireless interference and is also built for long battery life (more on that below).ĭue to my setup, I did suffer interference issues with the Rival 3 Wireless and its Quantum 2.0 dongle at first. But for gaming, you’re encouraged to use the dongle.īecause seemingly every gaming brand has its own wireless tech these days, the dongle uses SteelSeries’ Quantum 2.0 Wireless technology. The Rival 3 Wireless offers your choice of connecting via Bluetooth 5.0, which should give you longer battery life and save you a USB port, or via a USB Type-A dongle. The two side buttons were positioned in a way that felt just right in my hand, so even if there will be some natural variance between users, I’m comfortable saying their placement is fine. SteelSeries used mechanical switches for the left and right buttons, but they felt pretty typical. Nothing else about the Rival 3 Wireless truly stood out.The mouse neither astounds nor confounds it simply meets my expectations for a modern gaming mouse. I appreciated the lack of a cable that can get caught on my desk - or pounced upon by my cat - which automatically gives the Rival 3 Wireless an advantage over the Rival 3. This is a modern gaming mouse with modern gaming performance. I didn’t have any sensor-related problems flicking on to heads in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, cutting down guards in the demo for Ghostrunner or absently clicking my way through Divinity: Original Sin 2. The sensor can handle up to 40g of acceleration. ![]() The new sensor has a CPI range from 100 to 18,000 that feels like every other modern sensor, as well as a max velocity of up to over 400 IPS if you’re using one of SteelSeries’ best RGB mouse pads and 400 IPS otherwise. It debuts the SteelSeries’ TrueMove Air optical sensor, an upgrade over the wired version’s 8,500-CPI TrueMove Core. That said, the Rival 3 Wireless mostly performed as expected. ![]() I’ve started to adapt, and this won’t be a negative for people who have yet to hop on the ultra-lightweight bandwagon. I’ve grown so accustomed to using an ultra-lightweight mouse (the wired rat is only 2.22 ounces) that using a ‘normal’ mouse feels strange. I’ll be upfront: I would probably like the Rival 3 Wireless a lot more if I hadn’t started using the HK Gaming Mira-M a few months ago. The Rival 3 Wireless only features lighting on the scroll wheel, however, likely helping to keep cost and weight down. The Rival 3 had RGB backlighting along the bottom of its case and via the SteelSeries logo but not on the scroll wheel. Of course, this wouldn’t be a mass-market gaming mouse without some form of RGB backlighting, but the approach here is a bit different. But in daily use, these issues weren’t distracting. On the other hand, there is some wobble on the primary mouse buttons, as well as a bit of pre-travel. The scroll wheel texturing is typical SteelSeries, the matte coating is grippy without being too rough and the buttons all feel satisfying to press. ![]() Other aspects of the mouse feel mighty familiar. Luckily, that added weight also makes the Rival 3 Wireless feel a bit sturdier than its predecessor. ![]() Lighter wireless mice, such as the Logitech G Pro Wireless (2.82 ounces) and Razer Viper Ultimate (2.56 ounces) cost significantly more than the Rival 3 Wireless. The Rival 3 Wireless finds itself in good company at this weight: it’s similar to the Logitech G305 Lightspeed for example, as well as the Corsair Harpoon RGB Wireless (3.49 ounces each). Some weight gain is to be expected when making a wired mouse wireless, however, because of the additional hardware requirements. ![]() With FirstKey Homes, renting a home is quick and convenient.
